THE MCKAY FAMILY
Left, Carmelita ‘Rose’ Wellington (1927 – 2002) who arrived from Jameshill, Jamaica in 1957 seen with family members and friends including her uncle Egerton Fitzalbert McKay (1917 – 1996) in 1960s Leeds. The nephew of famed Jamaican poet and activist Claude McKay, Egerton migrated to Leeds in 1960 working at Yorkshire Chemicals and the Gas Board. He was an intellectual, articulate raconteur who like his famous uncle, loved literature.
