The Jamaica Society Leeds is proud to announce that we have received £14,000 in funding from the Windrush Day Scheme to celebrate the legacies of the Windrush Generation and the impact it has had on the next generations here in Leeds.

Building on the success of previous years, 33 projects across England have received a share of £500,000 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, administered by Near Neighbours.

This year’s projects will focus on bringing communities together – across different ages and ethnic backgrounds – to commemorate, celebrate and educate their local area about the contribution of the Windrush Generation and their descendants across the country.

“What We Carried, What We Carry: Windrush Legacies for the Generations” is the Jamaica Society Leeds’s Windrush 2026 project, working in partnership with Leeds St Kitts & Nevis Association. Our project celebrates heritage, community and the future we are building together.

This June and July, The Jamaica Society Leeds opens our doors at Jamaica House for the Young Entrepreneurs Expo on Monday 22 June, 12pm–6pm, and our Windrush Cultural Day Celebrations on Saturday 4 July, 2pm–6pm – a true cultural feast of Leeds creative talents alongside 3 Generations of Deejays tracing the music that has shaped British Caribbean life.

Our schools programme will take the Windrush story into classrooms across Leeds to hundreds of young people.
