We’re looking for volunteers interested in being part of the Out of Many Festival – an amazing programme of arts, culture and heritage celebrating 60 years of Jamaican independence happening across Leeds in 2022. The roles are;

Events Team Volunteers – to support the festival’s exciting programme activities – from community sessions to headline events with international artists. This might include;

  • General event support.
  • Event set up and break down.
  • Event registration.
  • Meet and greet at events; including audiences, guests and VIPs.
  • Gathering audience and guest feedback.

Exhibition Volunteers – to help us in the delivery of Rebellion to Romance a major exhibition exploring the lives of second-generation West Indians of Leeds in the 70s and 80s taking place at Leeds Central Library from July to October. This will include;

  • Supporting event set up of community collection events taking place in May and June.
  • Gathering and recording photos and other keepsakes shared with us at the collection events.
  • Exhibition visitor support – helping visitors to the exhibition with queries and information and gathering their feedback.

  • Excellent communication skills are essential – great listeners, able to communicate sensitively and respectfully with a range of people including audiences, visitors, guests and contributors from the Leeds African Caribbean community.
  • You should be willing to learn new skills and attend volunteer training sessions.
  • You must be comfortable working in a team as well as on your own.
  • Keen interest in Jamaican/African Caribbean and Black British history, heritage and community narratives would be great.
  • Research or gallery and museum experience would also be great but not essential.
  • Volunteers will receive free training in museum standard collection skills where appropriate.
  • Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be covered.
