Urgent Community Call: Jamaica Society Leeds Launches Leeds Drop-Off Centre for Hurricane Melissa Disaster Relief
The Jamaica Society Leeds is devastated by the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa across Jamaica. We are taking action to help those affected by working in partnership with Jamaica National Group. All donations collected through this local appeal will be distributed in Jamaica by Food For the Poor to support the national recovery efforts.
We are pleased to announce that Jamaica House, 277 Chapeltown Road, Leeds, LS7 3HA (entrance on Back Sholebroke Avenue) is now an official Drop-Off Centre in Leeds for the Hurricane Melissa Disaster Relief Appeal.
Opening Hours: Fridays, 10am – 4pm, starting Friday 7 November 2025
Enquiries: Call, text or WhatsApp 07709 659 108
Email: hello@jamaicasocietyleeds.co.uk
Members of the public, community organisations, and local businesses are encouraged to donate urgently needed items listed on the official Government of Jamaica Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) website, available at https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/needs.
In addition to donations for Jamaica, we are appealing for local support to help us operate the Drop-Off Centre:
- Volunteers Needed: Help collect, sort, and pack donated items every Friday. Volunteers can sign up by contacting us or by completing this online form https://forms.gle/Ws16HVoByHAFpktm6
- Packing Supplies Needed: Sturdy boxes of varying sizes, black permanent markers, and rolls of cellotape for sealing boxes.
Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Together, we can support Jamaica’s recovery, rebuild communities, and stand in solidarity with Jamaicans at home.
